I pulled my telescope out for the first full moon of and almost packed it back in. The image was so blinding through my 6-inch reflector that I could barely make out craters along the terminator. Squinting at lunar detail is no fun, and after ten minutes my eye was aching. That night sent me … Read more
I lost count of how many times I aimed my first Dobsonian at empty sky before figuring out where anything actually was. A solid finderscope turns hours of frustration into five-minute targets, and the right one makes every observing session more rewarding. After spending three months testing the best telescope finderscopes across red dot, reflex … Read more
I remember my first night out with a new Dobsonian. I spent 40 minutes hunting for Saturn because the stock finderscope showed me an empty patch of sky. That frustration sent me down the red dot finder rabbit hole, and I have been testing, swapping, and aligning them ever since. A red dot finder is … Read more
I still remember the first time I tried to identify a warbler flitting through a maple tree using a cheap pair of binoculars I borrowed from my dad. Most teens I know spend their evenings scrolling TikTok or grinding ranked matches. So when a teenager in my life told me they wanted to look at Saturn instead of staring at another screen, I took it seriously and started researching the best telescopes for teens that could actually hold their attention past the first … Read more
I pulled eight of the most popular telescopes under 1000 dollars into my garage last winter and spent four months testing them on clear nights. After logging over 40 observing sessions and snapping hundreds of eyepiece photos, I have honest opinions about which budget telescope deserves your money. Finding the best telescopes under 500 dollars … Read more
I have hauled a telescope across four continents, and I can tell you from experience: the wrong scope turns a dream dark-sky trip into a logistics nightmare. After our team spent the last three months comparing 12 models side by side, weighing each one, collapsing their tubes, and stuffing them into airline-approved bags, we narrowed … Read more
I still remember the first time I pulled Saturn’s rings out of a 6-inch reflector on a freezing December night. After fifteen years of looking through borrowed telescopes, that single view hooked me on this hobby for life. Reflectors give you something no other design can match at the same price: real light-gathering muscle for … Read more
I remember my first telescope — a flimsy department store refractor that showed Saturn as a fuzzy blob. After testing more than 30 refractor telescopes over the past two years, including 12 finalists that I’ll walk you through below, I can tell you which ones actually deliver sharp, satisfying views of the night sky. A … Read more
